Solace and Sanctuary

Welcome to my newest collection, Solace and Sanctuary. It was created during a time of great life change. I wanted to depict the presence of emergent hope following a time of deep shadow - a constant and faithful promise that what is present today, will be changed anew tomorrow. In this collection, inspired by my surroundings in the Carolinas (especially the lake by which I get to call home), I focused on the reflections and shadows of the trees on the waterline, and the narrow band of gold that appears as the last vestige of light in our day.

That bit of light isn’t showy, but for just a few moments, it somehow imbues the observer in the same gold as it does the treetops. Painting about the Carolinas has become like a love letter, a visual poem about the moments that allow us to be our best, revealing the gold in us all.

I love to think of this work as a meditative process, from both the creation standpoint, but from the viewer standpoint as well. This collection is gentle in hue, adding to the feeling of peace, the sanctuary that should be the most treasured space in your home.
